IPCONIQ Historian

Know the past,
manage the future

An industrial time-series database that compresses high-frequency process data for storage and queries it in under a millisecond. It works at a scale where relational databases break down.

What it does

Industrial data is unlike any other data

In a plant generating tens of thousands of points per second, a relational database eventually cannot keep up. The problem is not the volume, it is the nature of the data.

Where relational databases fall short

  • Write performance collapses as scale grows.
  • They have no notion of dead-band, exception reporting or industrial compression semantics.
  • There is no built-in support for OPC, SCADA and PLC protocols.
  • Query latency increases as tables grow.

Purpose-built for process control

  • Built-in industrial acquisition — OPC, IOServer collectors and 6,000+ device drivers from 1,600+ manufacturers
  • Industrial compression algorithms — Swinging door, sudden-change dead band, delta and on-the-hour compression — designed for sensor data, not metrics
  • Full-lifecycle data integrity — Multi-tier caching, redundancy, store-and-forward and rigorous error recovery mechanisms protect every record

Capabilities

Acquisition, compression, querying

Data acquisition
Connect directly to PLCs, SCADA systems, DCS networks and IIoT sensors with built-in industrial protocols; work with configurable scan-based and event-based modes.
Smart compression
Swinging Door and exception-reporting algorithms reduce storage by up to 40×. Preserve every meaningful change with configurable lossless or lossy modes.
High-speed querying
Sub-millisecond historical queries across millions of tags. Built-in interpolation, aggregation (average, min, max, std) and time-weighted averages.
Open connectivity
Expose historian data to any application via REST, ODBC, JDBC or native SDKs for Python, .NET and Java. No vendor lock-in.
Security and compliance
Role-based access control, full audit trail, TLS in transit and AES-256 encryption at rest. Meets IEC 62443 and NERC CIP compliance requirements.
High availability
Zero data loss during network outages or server failures thanks to active-passive and active-active replication, automatic failover and store-and-forward buffering.

Architecture

Where IPCONIQ Historian fits in the system

It sits in the data layer. It archives records coming from the operations layer and makes them available to MES, ERP, cloud and analytics systems from a single source.
